We support clients across the healthcare, defence, leisure, heritage, commercial and education sectors, delivering essential building services. As part of the Axis CLC group, backed by over 110 years of combined experience across the organisation, we offer responsive repairs, planned maintenance, compliance, decarbonisation and refurbishment solutions nationwide.

This role supports ongoing maintenance and refurbishment contracts across occupied and void properties, assisting with general site duties, material handling and multi-trade support works. The company prides itself on delivering excellent customer service, efficient project delivery and safe working practices at all times.

The Role

We’re looking for a reliable and hardworking Handyman / Labourer / Driver to join the team. You’ll play an important role supporting day-to-day site operations across a variety of residential and commercial projects.

This is a varied and hands-on role requiring flexibility, strong practical skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. You’ll regularly be working within occupied properties and active construction environments, so professionalism, communication and attention to detail are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out general minor multi-trade tasks across residential and commercial properties

  • Complete snagging works and defect rectification to a high standard

  • Support a wide range of projects, ensuring deadlines are achieved and client expectations are exceeded

  • Assist with monitoring material stock levels and requesting additional stock where required

  • Maintain high-quality workmanship while ensuring Health & Safety regulations are always followed

  • Carry out general labouring duties including assisting other trades and site teams

  • Arrange, collect and deliver materials, tools and equipment to various sites

  • Ensure work areas and sites are kept clean, tidy and safe at all times

  • Support site supervisors and Contracts Managers with daily operational requirements

  • Work independently or alongside other operatives and contractors when required

  • Communicate professionally with clients, residents and site teams

  • Travel between multiple sites as required throughout the working day

About You

You’re a reliable and motivated individual with good all-round practical experience and a positive attitude towards work. You take pride in maintaining high standards, work well within a team environment and are confident managing tasks independently when required.

You’ll be customer focused, safety conscious and able to adapt to the changing demands of busy project environments.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a similar handyman, labouring or driving role

  • Good all-round practical knowledge and experience within maintenance or construction environments

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong work ethic

  • Customer-focused and professional approach

  • CSCS card essential

  • Full UK driving licence essential

  • Good understanding of Health & Safety procedures and site safety requirements

  • Ability to manage workloads effectively and meet deadlines

  • Strong communication and organisational skills

Working Hours

  • Contracted hours: 39 hours per week

  • Flexibility is required to meet operational demands and deadlines

  • Overtime may be required when necessary

  • Travel between sites is required, with some overnight stays depending on contract location

CSCS Requirements

You will need a valid CSCS card before working on site. The card demonstrates your skills and ability to work safely within the construction industry.

To obtain a CSCS card, you must:

  • Pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test

  • Demonstrate occupational competence through relevant qualifications

  • If currently unqualified, you may be eligible to complete the On-site Assessment and Training (OSAT) or Experienced Worker Practical Assessment (EWPA) route to gain qualification status

Benefits

  • Up to £36K depending on experience + potential OTE
