This role supports ongoing maintenance contracts across occupied and void properties, carrying out painting and decorating works across a variety of residential and commercial environments. The Role
We’re looking for a skilled and reliable Painter and Decorator to join the team. You’ll play an important role delivering high-quality decorating and finishing works across both private and commercial premises.
This is a hands-on role requiring excellent practical skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. You’ll regularly be working in occupied properties, so professionalism, communication and customer care are essential.
Responsibilities
Carry out preparation works to previously painted and new surfaces including walls, ceilings, woodwork and metalwork
Apply water-based paints to a variety of internal and external surfaces
Apply solvent-based paints to a variety of surfaces
Undertake decorating works to both internal and external areas
Hang decorative wallcoverings to a high standard
Hang lining paper accurately and efficiently
Install wide vinyl wallcoverings professionally
Ensure all decorating works are completed to a high standard with a clean and professional finish
Diagnose surface issues and complete effective preparation and finishing works
Maintain safe working practices and follow all Health & Safety procedures at all times
Work independently or alongside other operatives and contractors when required
Communicate professionally with clients, residents and site teams
Ensure work areas are left clean, tidy and safe upon completion
Travel between job locations, with flexibility for occasional overnight stays where required
About You
You’re a skilled and motivated tradesperson with strong painting and decorating experience. You take pride in your workmanship, have excellent attention to detail and are committed to delivering high standards of customer service.
You’ll be confident working in occupied properties, able to manage your workload effectively and always maintain a professional and respectful approach.
Requirements
Proven experience as a Painter and Decorator within property maintenance, repairs or refurbishment
Strong experience in surface preparation, painting and wallcovering installation
Knowledge of onsite working practices and Health & Safety regulations
Understanding of current building regulations and safe working procedures
NVQ or City & Guilds qualification in Painting and Decorating preferred
CSCS card or willingness to obtain one
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Excellent practical and problem-solving skills
Ability to complete work to deadlines and maintain high standards
Good communication and customer service skills
Reliable, professional and motivated attitude
Full UK driving licence
Own tools and equipment relevant to the role
CSCS Requirements
You will need a valid CSCS card before working on site. The card demonstrates your skills and ability to work safely within the construction industry.
To obtain a CSCS card, you must:
Pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test
Demonstrate occupational competence through relevant qualifications
If currently unqualified, you may be eligible to complete the On-site Assessment and Training (OSAT) or Experienced Worker Practical Assessment (EWPA) route to gain qualification status
